A local training company approached Sapere via a national funding body that’d recommended us. The training company needed a way to publicise and sell training modules and publications.
Two of the greatest benefits the World Wide Web have brought about; the first is the sharing of vast quantities of knowledge. The second is the ability to purchase and sell goods and services from any part of the World day or night and depending on the purchase it could be consumed instantly or in only a few hours or days.
Sapere developed an e-commerce platform to allow a training company to sell their publications and training modules on-line.
The client had amassed a vast library of consumable electronic training courses and publications and needed a way to deliver these for sale over the web.
Selling the products had to be efficient and with the lowest amount of effort on the clients part.
Rather than adopt a free off the shelf e-commerce platform Sapere designed and built a bespoke web-based e-commerce platform. This allowed the client to create training packages to sell through a tailored content management solution. Payment was taken through PayPal and the SEO (site Engine Optimisation) was automated to ensure the products were found through the search engines.
Making changes to an off the shelf open source package to engineer the solution do what you want it to will ultimately mean the underlying 'engine' of the open source cart cannot be upgraded. This becomes a problem when the technology around it such as the server it sits on, the web browsers people use to consume the website change. Off the shelf open source solutions are good for short-term quick wins but not long term projects where the system needs changing as the business moves direction.
These are the platforms Sapere used to deliver the solution.
