Software Surgery – 2022 trends

The nature of tech and software is that it is ever-changing, so what’s on the horizon that you need to know about this year?

Of course, we could start off by talking about the headline-grabbers – your cryptocurrencies and your blockchain, for example – but let’s be honest, they’re not things that most businesses will be thinking about for a few years yet.

Instead, we’ll take a look at the developments in store that are likely to have an impact on your company and the way it is run…

Automation

Not necessarily a new trend, but certainly a continuing one, automation of services has rocketed in recent years, thanks largely to the pandemic.

No longer the preserve of big businesses, smaller firms can also take advantage of the benefits automating at least some of your services, saving valuable human hours and releasing your team from their admin burdens.

From time-tracking for your staff to the ability to streamline your invoicing process, automating at least part of your work can ultimately create major savings in both time and money.

System integration

Or, in other words, communication between your systems. In fact, one of the most common business challenges we encounter at Sapere is clients duplicating basic information, such as customer details, across multiple systems.

This multiplies the effort involved for each new entry, as it will often have to be completed manually, which also leaves room for error.

However, when systems are integrated, information is entered in one place and then duplicated, along with any subsequent changes, across all other systems in real-time.

The result is less duplication of effort, which improves efficiencies, reduces the potential for human error, and could even ultimately increase profit

The cloud

In just a decade, use of the cloud has become commonplace – helped along, of course, by the pandemic and the increasing need to work from anywhere.

For the uninitiated, the cloud refers to servers that are accessed via the Internet, as opposed to hardware stored in your office, and the software and databases that run on those servers. By using cloud computing, users and companies do not have to manage physical servers themselves or run software applications on their own machines.

Obviously, during the pandemic, the cloud became vital to allow everyone access to the software tools they needed to do their jobs while working from home. As such, we fully expect to see a growth in cloud infrastructure over the coming year, as the trend for homeworking continues.

Safeguarding your future

You may not be thinking of selling up any time soon, but digital is not going away any time soon either. That’s why we’d always encourage firms to keep their software systems up to date, so that, when the time comes to move on, your prized business is an attractive proposition for buyers.

If your systems are fully integrated and automated, with processes streamlined and admin kept to a minimum, you’re a far more likely target than one stuck in the Dark Ages, whose new owner will have to wrestle with untangling it all before they even begin.
