Following a recent merger involving five care homes across Northumberland and Newcastle, the organisation was seeking to modernise and unify its digital infrastructure. The goal was to establish a central, unified system that could be managed from their headquarters in Gosforth, Newcastle, that would enhance operational efficiency, improve care delivery, and better serve their residents and staff.

Using our consultancy/system design service, the team at Sapere were able to speak with key stakeholders and analyse the dependencies and entities in each area of the organisation to provide:

Consultation: A series of discussions took place with the Abbeyfield Northumbria leadership team, as well as with current and prospective suppliers to understand the current digital landscape, operational challenges and strategic goals.

Strategy Evaluation: The existing and prospective systems (such as care management software, communication platforms, and administrative tools) were analysed to determine which systems should be retained, updated or replaced.

Solution Recommendations: Potential digital solutions that could support centralised management and create efficiencies across the organisation were identified.

Tender Preparation: Assistance was provided in drafting a comprehensive, clear and targeted tender document for each entity to ensure the right vendors were invited to meet the needs of the organisation.

Benefits

  • Scalability – the framework will allow the organisation to easily centralise the digital entities of any new homes added to the group using the created blueprint.
  • Data – decisions that need to be made on things like broadband requirements can be supported and substantiated with calculations included in the report to support the scalability.
  • Roadmap – the report provides a clear/manageable roadmap to achieve the objectives.

Results

This resulted in the creation of a detailed document that has helped the organisation understand how the different homes digital infrastructure can be standardised and centralised, with a tender brief for the areas that require it.
